    3. Goldie, is there any mention of James or William BURNETT in the story of the Alert? These two brothers both died aboard the Alert, William on 27 Jul 1860 and James on 11 Sep 1866. 3. The Capt was Mr. Forbes MILNE, and the article or another source said he had no ticket. I think you had better have the full story.....I will email direct......the answer to the question you asked is 'yes, there is ONE', Wm Burnett, Strichen died 27 Jul 1860. In part the story reads, "Barnet and Mitchell were both pitched out of the boat when it was upset by a whale and not seen again." On the list of the dead it gives his name and date of death. I'll get you the info off line........I guess the message here is that some of the lost sailors do get reported. But, I have never found all of mine and cannot be sure the ones I did find belong to this Walker family. 3. Nancy   I have reproduced the parts of the newspaper articles which I trust are of some assistance to you:     From The Aberdeen Journal, Wednesday, October 9, 1861   ............The Alert left Peterhead for the Straits on the 18th May, 1860, and sighted the ice on June 8.  On July 27, a boat was capsized following a fish, and two of the crew, Burnett and Mitchell, were never seen after being pitched out of the boat........ The names of the men dead are – .................  William Burnett, Strichen, drowned by the upsetting of a boat, 27th July 1860; .............  From The Buchan Observer, Friday, September 21, 1866   ARRIVAL FROM CUMBERLAND STRAITS – .............. The “Alert” left the fishing ground on the 11th August, and experienced very heavy weather in her passage up to the 5th Sept., and reports having spoken the “Dublin” on the 10th August with one fish, about 8 tons.  Wm. McPherson, mate of the “Dublin,” had died of consumption on the 20th June, and a seaman belonging to her, named James Burnett, who had been taken ill, and was coming home by the “Alert,” died several days before she arrived, and his corpse was brought to Peterhead ...............     Alison ________________________________ From: Nancy Visima <nvisima@rogers.com> To: aberdeen@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, 9 January, 2010 19:24:21 Subject: Re: [ABERDEEN] Lost Sailors Goldie, is there any mention of James or William BURNETT in the story  of the Alert?
