Most genealogy involves "trying" searches that may not turn out to be successful. I can't offer any guarantees! But if you do try to find William (whose name, I regret to say, is a fairly common one) in the town of Aberdeen, note that the ancient town parish of Aberdeen is called St Nicholas, and that the town expanded, from the late 18th century, into the neighbouring parish of Old Machar.
