The western end of the parish of Gamrie (known as Doune or Down) was semi-independent from the later 18th century, when the then Earl of Fife paid for a new church (Doune Kirk) overlooking the town which was, in his honour, renamed Macduff. This administrative independence seems to have been temporarily abolished when civil registration started in 1855, with Doune/Macduff being re-integrated into the Registration District of Gamrie. In 1882 Macduff was set up as a separate Registration District. The MIs for Doune Kirk list several BLACKs. Gavin Bell -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
