I am looking for the death document of William Lumsden and his wife Ann Callum of Stonehaven from 1824 to 1851. There seems to be no online record in all of Scotland of them after the 1851 census at 71 years. A death record from 1855 on would be very helpful. Does Stonehaven have missing records ? Jim
Civil registration didn't start until 1855, but if you are lucky you may find a Monumental Inscription or if you get the film for those years you may find a mort cloth rental page and find them that way. MI's are worth the try, as is the film. Jim, Have you checked with the House of Lumsden? William and Ann both seem to have been from Banffshire originally ( or at least they were both living there when they married in 1816). William isn't in any of my records for the northern Lumsdens but there are lots of Lumsdens from Banff . Hopefully Archie Lumsden, the historian, can help you find them. Best of luck! There is no death certificate in Kincardineshire after 1855 for a William LUMSDEN born in the period 1778-1782 HOWEVER there is one born c. 1781 who died in Aberdeenshire in 1861, aged 80. Depending on dates he might have been born in 1780 or 1781 - or remember that his age might be wrong on the DC. There is no Record of the death of Ann LUMSDEN/CALLUM of any age in the whole of Scotland after 1855. You didn't give her age/DoB and I can't find them on the 1841 Census on FreeCEN [which doesn't have Stonehaven!]. I'd guess she died before 1855. It might be worth a small investment in ScP to have a look at the death certificate for William LUMSDEN. He might be your guy and maybe Ann died before the start of statutory registration in 1855. If he is recorded as a widower it should give his wife's maiden name. It is quite possible he moved to Aberdeenshire [not the city - I looked] to be with family. This may or not help you. Hope it does. -- Best wishes Ray ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net Hints for Scotland's People at http://bit.ly/WIAN-SCP **********************************************************

Hi Ray, Re your above comment regarding Stonehaven, you will find that entries for the town are split between the Parishes of Fetteresso & Dunnottar. It would appear that the Stonehaven addresses are entered as Fetteresso-Stonehvn in the Fetteresso index and in the Dunnottar one you have to open up the index entry to locate Stonehaven addresses and they are entered as "street name - Stonehaven". Alex.
