You may have to plough through them. You can check the locations of all burial grounds in NE Scotland at: http://www.abdnet.co.uk/burialgrounds/ The town of Stonehaven is, as already been pointed out, split between the parishes of Dunnottar and Fetteresso, both of whose ancient kirkyards will contain burials from the town. But the parish of Fetteresso additionally contains the burial ground surrounding the ruined church of Cowie, and I imagine some residents of Stonehaven will have been buried there as well. I would also tend to suppose that residents of Stonehave may not always have been buried in the "correct" kirkyard, ie in the parish where they died - families often had burial rights in one specific burial ground, and even if one family member had "emigrated" to the other side of the town, he or she may have been "repatiated" to the burial ground of the parish where the family had a lair. The MIs for Dunnottar are published by ANESFHS with the catalogue number AA127. Cowie MIs are published as AA117. There are unpublished draft MIs for Fetteresso, and ANESFHS members can request lookups. Gavin Bell
Thank you for the information Gavin Bell The pictures credited to you are GREAT ! I have been looking for Death records for William Lumsden and his wife Ann Callum of Stonehaven ~1854. I have found sequential inscriptions in Alvah cemetery in the area of Banff that they came from. Unfortunately there are no dates given. The Stonehaven cemeteries Dunnottar and Fetteresso have nothing. Fetteresso cemetery has no listings of names. Is it on a to do list ? I am trying to get an better idea of just what anesfhs can do for me as a prospective member. The burial ground web site was a jaw dropper when I put in my Grandmothers surname Gerrard in Aberdour. I now have 4 pages and 46 Gerrard's burials to record. Any more pointers would be most welcome. The group has been very helpfull.
