Ralph Smith wrote: > IS THERE ANYONE THERE !!!!!!!. > > Does any person have any info on the above Woods family > > James Wood and George Wood were twins born in Torry Aberdeen in Jan > 1841. What is your source for this information? Torry did not become part of Aberdeen until the end of the 19th century, after the former estuary of the River Dee had been reclaimed, and the Victoria Bridge built. In 1841 it would have been considered as part of the parish of Nigg, Kincardineshire, and any births there would be recorded in the OPRs for Nigg, not in the records for Aberdeen. Gavin Bell
My family interests are on my mother's family. Her family line I have so far - Margaret McMann born Mill of Glanderstone Premnay 1875 died South Australia 1959 Father William McMann B. Dufftown Banffshire abt 1830 - died 1893, Insch, Aberdeenshire Mother Anne Mavor 1832 Glass, Aberdeenshire George Mavor abt 1798, Isobel Allan B. abt 1802 Cairnie, Aberdeenshire Granny Margaret McMann married Alexander McRobb( Insch 1897) who was born 1872 Middleton, Premnay.died South Australia 1943. Father Alexander McRobb Edingarioch not married to Margaret Smith ABT 1855 Premnay, Aberdeenshire. Margaret Smith married Henry Laing in November 1875 and had 10 more children who would have been half siblings to my grandfather. Henry Laing was with his grandmother Helen Mortimer as an 11 yr old in 1861 census Gf Alexander McRobb is listed as a lodger with the Laings in the 1881 census All info is from a mix of Ancestry and Scotlands People. I would be interested in finding any other people who have been researching any of these families. My mother thought that some female on the Mavor line had come from Ireland. Thank you, Denise

Hi Denise Your mention of the Mavor family at Glass caught my eye. I have a note of a number of Old Parish Register entries for William Mavor and Isobel Brander. They were married at Glass in 1786 and then had 5 daughters, one every two years, until at last in 1787 they had a son George. This is a note of the OPRs *GLASS OPRs* *July 22 1786* *William Mavor and Isobel Brander both in this parish were matrimonially contracted and proclaimed July 23, 30 and Aug 6th and married at Glass Aug 27 1786* * * *15th July 1787* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised called Isobel before these witnesses Alexander Brander and Alexander Louper both in Cairnmore.* * * *5th May 1789* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised called Elspet before these witnesses George Brander and John Louper in Cairnmore.* * * *8th May 1791* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised called Margaret before these witnesses Alexander Brander, James and Alexr Loupper in Cairnmore* * * *2nd June 1793* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised called Anne in front of these witnesses George and Alexander Brander both in Cairnmore.* * * *7th June 1795* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised called Jean before these witnesses John and George Brander in Cairnmore.* * * *4th June 1797* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a son baptised called George before these witnesses George Wall in Boghead and George Brander in Cairnmore.* * * *13th June 1799* *William Mavor in Cairnmore with his wife Isobel Brander had a daughter baptised and called Isobel before these witnesses Alexander Brander and William Simpson both Cairnmore.* *Note: the first Isabel b 1787 must have died* There is an earlier Cairnie OPR of the marriage of George Brander and an Isabel Mavor but there are no records that I can find of any children being baptised so I have not been able to identify which George Brander this is.This is a common problem insofar as I have 15 identified George Branders in my tree and there are a number more in the Huntly area who I have not been able to pin down. *CAIRNIE OPR* *George Brander and Isobel Mavor both in this Parish contracted November 5th 1757 consigned Pledges etc.* I hope the above is of assistance regards George ** On Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 9:54 AM, Denise <neeseau@gmail.com> wrote: > My family interests are on my mother's family. > Her family line I have so far - > Margaret McMann born Mill of Glanderstone Premnay 1875 died South > Australia 1959 > Father William McMann B. Nancy I have reproduced the parts of the newspaper articles which I trust are of some assistance to you: From The Aberdeen Journal, Wednesday, October 9, 1861 ............The Alert left Peterhead for the Straits on the 18th May, 1860, and sighted the ice on June 8. On July 27, a boat was capsized following a fish, and two of the crew, Burnett and Mitchell, were never seen after being pitched out of the boat........ The names of the men dead are – ................. William Burnett, Strichen, drowned by the upsetting of a boat, 27th July 1860; ............. From The Buchan Observer, Friday, September 21, 1866 ARRIVAL FROM CUMBERLAND STRAITS – .............. The “Alert” left the fishing ground on the 11th August, and experienced very heavy weather in her passage up to the 5th Sept., and reports having spoken the “Dublin” on the 10th August with one fish, about 8 tons. Wm. McPherson, mate of the “Dublin,” had died of consumption on the 20th June, and a seaman belonging to her, named James Burnett, who had been taken ill, and was coming home by the “Alert,” died several days before she arrived, and his corpse was brought to Peterhead ...............
